Boobys Everywhere, But Not A Drop (of Water) To Drink

Bob and Marie Climb Old Booby Hill

Two Against The Hill

Old Booby Hill stands off on its own between the Windwardside Level and Spring Bay. It’s an absolutely wonderful diversion off trail hike from the Spring Bay trail saddle, and a mere 20 minutes of scrambling up low scrub nets you fantastic views of Saba’s south coast that you can’t see without an airplane or being on a boat offshore: a full view of Hell’s Gate all the way from the airport up to Mt Scenery, as well as the rugged sea cliffs directly below The Level. I rambled up the summit earlier this week with UK Bob the builder and his artsy crafty French wife Marie. This picture captures just a smidgeon of the many grand views from the Old Booby Hill summit, as well as the short, but steep little climb to get there. I recommend this hike strongly, as a surprising number of locals and long term expats have never done this fulfilling side excursion in the many years they’ve been here. It was Bob and Marie’s first time in the seven years they’ve been here.

By the way, New Booby Hill (simply called Booby Hill) is on the way to The Level, and has many expansive homes with fantastic views.

Video Killed The Photo Star

And Now For Something Completely Different (Video)

We got a cool short video clips of Saba., including the plane takeoff from the shortest commercial runway in the world. I sure hope this works, it took 45 minutes to upload (thanks Scout’s Place) Would love reader feedback and comments on this first ever video of Saba hiking I made during a couple hikes with my brother down to Spring Bay and up Mt Scenery. Those who haven’t been here yet should get a good sense of the varied terrain and scale, while those who know and love Saba will either have fond remembrances of certain trails or get their hiking feet on and get back on the trails if they’re here 😉 Keep in mind, my brother Michael and I had a little bit o’ goofin’ around doing this video.

Sorry for the late post today, I’ve been on an all morning early hike and spent this evening trying to load this vid up.

Have fun & please comment as it suits ya. We’ll return to our regular scheduled photos in the coming days. Cheers!

SPRING FORWARD, TREE BACK, FOODIES OF THE WORLD

A very full and foodie crazy day on Saba, rambling down the ridges and across guts and snapping pictures of Spring Bay/Kelbe’s Ridge in the early AM, an afternoon enjoying the splendid lunch made by our friend Marie Petit at her and Bob’s home in Hell’s Gate: a passion fruit-grape-banana smoothie, walnut-spinach-apple salad, seared tuna, grilled tomatoes and spices, capers and cream over mahi mahi.

Later on, dinner at Brigadoon netted us fennel-tomato-onion sauce over dolphin tail snapper. Finishing up the evening, we chilled with our Sea Saba friend Becca and her man Johnny, who’s a chef at Ecolodge. More premier barbecue fixin’s….and a little suds to wash it down. So many premier cooks on the isle. Food is love, is it not?
